Recipe: Berry Basil-ade

A refreshing, sweet and savory thirst-quencher

Sometimes you get tired of plain old water. Here’s a beverage that quenches your thirst and wakes up your taste buds. This antioxidant-rich lemonade has no added sweeteners and an intriguing blend of savory and sweet flavors.

Ingredients

1 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (wild, organic if possible)
4 sprigs fresh basil
1 lemon, juiced
2 cups chilled water
1 cup ice (optional)

Directions

  1. Place the blueberries and the basil in a blender, and blend on high until uniformly combined, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  2. Add the lemon juice, and stir to incorporate.
  3. Pour water into a pitcher and add ice, if using.
  4. Add the berry mixture to the pitcher, and stir to combine.

Note: Best enjoyed fresh, but you can store this lemonade in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
